Photo of the inside of a wooden cage that served as living quarters for black and white convicts in a Georgia prison. Notes from Spivak on the back read, "Inside of convict cage at Camp No. 2, Sumter County chain gang - a few miles out of Americus, Ga. Oct. 24, 1931 Taken in the evening, lamp hanging from ceiling was rocking. Mode hole in center. This is used for stove pipe outlet in winter. Stove rests on iron square in center of cage. Light visible through hole caused by lights around cage so guards can see all around at night. C.H. Wheatley, warden. Mode filthy, from mattresses and blankets.
